If you have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001, and are still on active duty, or if you are an honorably discharged Veteran or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days, you may be eligible for this VA-administered program. Program Details/Course Requirements

  • You may receive a percentage of the following payments (see chart). A Tuition and Fee payment that is paid to your school on your behalf
    Fee table
  • A Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)** that is equal to:
    • the basic allowance for housing (BAH) payable for the zip code of your school to a military E-5 with dependents for students pursuing resident training
    • one-half the BAH national average for students training solely by distance learning
    • the national average BAH for students pursuing training at foreign schools

You may be eligible if you served at least 90 aggregate days on active duty* after September 10, 2001, or were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability after serving 30 continuous days following September 10, 2001.

Note: Children of a member of the Armed Forces who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, may be eligible for Post-9/11 GI Billl® benefits under the Marine Gunnery John David Fry Scholarship Program

How it works - Steps to Approval:

  1. Acquire Certificate of eligibility from the Veterans Administration
  2. Determine if program of study is eligible for funding. (All approved programs of study are located on the VA's WEAMS Report (Approved UGA Continuing Education Programs listed below)
    1. If program is already approved, go to step 4
    2. Program of interest not approved, go to step 3
  1. Contact the office providing the training and speak to their military education specialist to seek program approval. For Georgia Center for Continuing Education Programs, contact our military education specialist Suzanne Beckham and she will work with you to apply for program approval.
    1. Upon program approval proceed to step 4
  1. Provide school with your certificate of eligibility (email/fax)
  2. Contact School to register for approved program
  3. School will update student enrollment into VA Once
  4. Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Billl® will pay school directly for student tuition cost. Tuition payment from VA will be based on percent eligibility indicated on students certificate of eligibility
    1. In the event that the certificate of eligibility indicates less than 100% payable benefit, the student will be responsible for the remaining % of tuition. (The Georgia Center for Continuing Education requires this balance payment at the point of course registration)
      1. Example – Certificate of Eligibility =80%, Program Cost $1,000- Post 9/11 pays to school $800, Student pays to school $200 (Student % responsibility due at the point of registration)
