Goal
The goal of the 2009 Cancer Research Symposium is to provide a forum for exchange of ideas, information and best practices to further collaborative efforts to combat cancer in Georgia.
Attendees
Cancer researchers who have been tapped by the Georgia Cancer Coalition for the Distinguished Cancer Clinicians and Scientists program are expected to attend the conference as well as those who have received a GCC Cancer Research Award. They will participate alongside other cancer researchers, clinicians, educators, administrators, government and business leaders in the state. Representatives of Georgia's academic universities, hospitals, cancer organizations, regional cancer coalitions, survivorship organizations, legislature, and others committed to fighting cancer in Georgia are invited to attend.
Mission
The mission of the Georgia Cancer Coalition is to reduce the number of cancer deaths in the state and ensure that Georgia becomes a national leader in cancer control by accelerating prevention, early detection, treatment and research.
Abstracts
Conference participants are invited to submit abstracts for presentations.
ORAL Presentations will be given on the morning of Friday, November 6. The presenter is given 10 minutes for the presentation, plus 5 minutes for questions. Breakout sessions will be by category:
- Basic Research
- Clinical/Translational Research
- Epidemiology/Public Health
- Commercialization/Technology Transfer.
POSTER Presentations will be on display the afternoon of Thursday, November 5. Posters can remain in place for the duration of the meeting. Abstract should be 250 words, including: Title; Authors; Institutional Affiliation; and 3-5 Key words. Please indicate if you are submitting an abstract for a poster or an oral presentation, in which case you should indicate which category:
- Basic Science
- Clinical/Translational Science
- Epidemiology/Public Health
- Commercialization/Technology Transfer.
Please also include a paragraph about yourself, including: your name, title, institutional affiliation, educational background, and a brief summary of your research. Tour
Staff of the University of Georgia's Complex Carbohydrate Center will be available to take participants on a tour of the center on Thursday, November 5, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. In order to arrange for bus transportation, we will need to know how many participants would like to take the tour. Please check TOUR on your registration sheet if you would like to attend.

Lodging at the Georgia Center Hotel
For your convenience, a block of rooms is being held for your event until 5:00 p.m. ET, October 5, 2009. (2) Lodging Cancellation Cancel your reservation by 4:00 p.m. ET the day prior to your scheduled arrival to avoid being charged one night's room and tax. Travel Information
Athens, Georgia, is located about 60 miles northeast of Atlanta. For directions and airport shuttle information, see www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/directions. A parking deck is located adjacent to the Center ($10 per night; vehicle height limit, 7 feet). Athens is served by Athens-Ben Epps Airport as well as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is located about 90 minutes southwest of Athens. Scheduled ground shuttle service and rental car services are available between Hartsfield-Jackson and the Georgia Center.

cancellation, there will be no refunds or substitutions allowed.
